The Air Force Material Command (AFMC), conducts research, development, test and evaluation, and provides the acquisition management services and logistics support necessary to keep Air Force weapon systems ready for war. The AFMC Configuration Management (CM) Project Management Office (PMO) required review of its CM processes and procedures, and a tool set that would provide both asset identification/management as well as dependency mappings of all systems and applications contained in its Regional Data Centers (RDC). InScope Approach and Solution InScope conducted a full review of AFMC existing policies and procedures and identified gaps based on MIL-BNK-61A. The team implemented Veritas Configuration Manager to capture the desired asset information. The integration of this tool provided the client with a complete list of all product assets, list of applications associated with >each asset, system dependency mappings, and application dependency mappings.
The InScope solution provided AFMC with a roadmap for creating its ideal Automated Configuration Management environment including detailed staffing plans for the expansion of the CM PMO.
